I AM TERRIFIED OF DREAMING! 2020 LOW-KEY SUCKS ALREADY!
One of the things that I struggle with especially during the beginning of the year is setting goals, dreaming, strategizing and trusting the voice within me during this time. The new year symbolizes a beginning, a hope, a new season or even a second chance. All this can spell out PRESSURE and can be really overwhelming. I have felt the pressure, the fear of the unknown and anxiety that it brings. I think that this year (2019) and last year (2018) I have dealt with the most anxiety especially as I did brave and uncomfortable things. One of the lessons that I am carrying into this new year is to breathe and trust that inner voice that speaks to me. The one that validates and approves of everything that God has called me to be.
With everyone sharing their resolutions on social media, it is super easy to feel like they are shouting! (That pressure that I mentioned above.) There is also the notion that questions us about what will be different this time around? I mean we have had years to change our lives, why should 2020 be different? As much as this statement is stating facts, it may not motivate us to begin again, to try again and pick up our ambitions, dreams and goals just one more time.
2020 can be a beginning for some or a continuation. Since it is a blank page, we get to decide if we are writing a whole new story or continuing with the narrative. So yes, a lot can change for us this year and a lot can remain the same. The possibilities are endless and that right there is where we find our POWER. Possibilities are endless and constant. We can decide to look at this year with glasses of possibilities or with sameness.
So NO! Don’t be embarrassed to try again this year what you attempted last year during the same time and did not manage to get to day 30 or day 2. Put that shame away because there is nothing to be ashamed of. What happened then is very normal. We get motivated and we get de-motivated. We sometimes set goals that are not so clear and we sometimes do not strategize as we should. I am 100% guilty of this. No one taught me to properly set goals, plan, have ambitions et. These are things that I found out I needed to do after I graduated high school. I mean, I did not even think that creating a meaningful, happy and satisfied life needed me to be very intentional about it.
It’s okay guys to struggle in this area because, to be honest, a lot of us were not brought up with these values and mindsets. So if we beat ourselves up too hard, then guess what, we will not be able to do much this 2020. Let us release the shame of “I should have been further by now”. Release the fear of not being ‘’good enough’’. Exhale the societal pressure and social media expectations and projections.
Instead, stop avoiding the mirror and truly look within yourself this 2020 and accept the things that you want for your life. The things you want to stop, change, pursue, achieve, clarify or begin. Agree with them, say them out loud and finally put them on paper. Write them exactly how you see them and if you want to google it to clarify it, then go ahead and begin strategizing. Ask yourself what you can begin doing today to start bringing your goal, dream or vision to life. Set a timeline and find an accountability partner (family/friend/mentor/coach) that you can read to your plan and can help you remain committed when you feel like you cannot keep going.
I hosted a clarify your goals session on Saturday the 18th January and a lot of the ladies and gent that attended were able to clarify 2020 for themselves and build the stamina it would take for them to achieve their goals. We will be posting a vlog of it on Thursday 3oth JAN. In the meantime SUBSCRIBE to our YOUTUBE CHANNEL HERE to catch up with previous videos.
