I have always been the type of girl that really enjoys sitting down with women from all walks of life that inspire me and bask around the warmth of their strength, listen to their stories and take in much-needed advice. I do not know about you but as I grow into my own woman, I have dealt and still deal with fear when it comes to pursuing my dreams and goals. It can get scary and paralysing and that is why I believe each and every woman should have another woman holding their hand through their journey to greatness and transformation.
The Journeys of Women Trailblazers in Kenya Vol 1 is a book that contains 205 trailblazing women in Kenya drawn from a variety of 25 key industries. These women firmly hold the hands of other women through this book by sharing their challenges, their lessons and advice. The book explores their families, Education background, career progression, groundbreaking accomplishments, work-life balance and my favourite, their words of wisdom.

These women have dreamt, persevered and pursued so that we may find a path to walk through and that would be accessible not only to us but to our sons and daughters. I love that the book is categorized in a way that you can literally pick out an Industry you wish to be inspired by and the leading-edge women in the particular industry of interest. It’s brilliant!

The authenticity of this coffee table book is unmatched! Over 100 women were interviewed and many of them hadn’t really shared their stories on mainstream media. An equal number of inspiring women also share through short vignettes that shed light on their amazing achievements.
One interesting and comforting thing I noticed as I read through the lives of these women before their groundbreaking achievements, is this FIRE they had within themselves! I could almost see, hear and feel the blazing flames that they had. I recognized that fire because that fire is within me and within each and every determined woman and it will be stirred even more as you turn through the pages of these women’s lives.

I admired the fact that the book captures both the wisdom and strength of older women and the lived ambitions and burning fire of younger women of this generation who have pioneered in what we call male-dominated industries such as governance, aviation, corporate, finance, ICT, maritime and politics just to mention a few. It is just the perfect fusion of magic, power and strength of who the Kenyan woman is and the amazing things she is capable of!
These women did not have “perfect situations” moulding them into who they are! These women are our sisters, our mothers and our biggest cheerleaders as we strive to cross over to their side in our own strengths and uniqueness. Therefore, we are able to relate to their stories and see ourselves in them.

The Journeys of Women Trailblazers in Kenya is the inaugural edition from Kenya Yearbook Editorial Boards’ Pioneers and Transformers series.
I am personally grateful to all who worked on this masterpiece and excited about the next edition. I hope you, my relatable readers get to read this book and bask under the wisdom in it. You can get the book at the textbook centre and other book stores countrywide.
